Klaipėda City Municipality has declared 2026 as the Year of Social Responsibility, reflecting the city’s commitment to putting people, community and responsible living first. At the same time, the city invites everyone to help shape a daily life where everyone can thrive and to care for the environment we all share.
Therefore, now is the perfect time to create digital solutions that foster social inclusion and sustainability. Join us at the DIGI4all Hackathon on April 23 at Klaipėda Science and Technology Park! Your ideas are needed to help tackle these challenges:
Klaipėdos “Lakštutė”
Challenge #1: Sexuality education app
Individuals with intellectual disabilities begin to be interested in their bodies and their reactions a little later than usual. Although they are older, this does not mean that these individuals can understand the usual explanations or concepts related to the body and its sexual reactions. Also, parents and guardians are often unwilling or do not have the right tools to answer emerging questions about sexuality.
Therefore, the aim is to create a mobile app or a different type of digital tool that would allow individuals with intellectual disabilities to find answers to their about sexuality. The app or another type of digital tool should work at different levels of user understanding.
We invite teams to create a digital solution for this challenge, clearly assessing that the solution cannot be text-based, since not all its users have reading and writing skills. It should be noted that associative visualizations, voice-overs and color variations are suitable means to ensure the communication of this solution.
The user should be able to use the mobile app or other digital solution themselves and it should be intuitive and simple.
Challenge #2: Communication tool for non-verbal people
Among people with intellectual disabilities, there are some who cannot speak in the usual way. In order for employees or family members to be able to communicate with a person, understand their needs, their thoughts, a communication tool for people who do not speak is needed.
This newly developed tool must be in Lithuanian, easy to use and with a clear structure/system of use for the user. It may even include several levels of understanding for the user.
It is necessary to emphasize that not all users of the tool will be able to write or read, therefore the application must be universal, for example, have the ability to communicate using pictures or other methods.

Challenge #3: Ensuring the safety of residents
More than 80 elderly residents currently live in Klaipėda city nursing home. A significant number of them suffer from dementia and often try to leave the facility.
To date, both physical barriers and educational solutions have been tested and the challenge has not been finally resolved. The complexity of the situation is characterized by the fact that both the living quarters and the outdoor area are spread across a large in area, which complicates the overall monitoring of patients. The aim is to create a tool that would not disturb the residents, would not cause them discomfort or otherwise disrupt their daily routine, but at the same time would ensure their safe mobility in the nursing home.
Teams are invited to create a solution that would act as a monitoring system or simply a digital tool that would notify staff about a resident who has left or is about to leave the premises, record different areas of their presence (room, floor, outdoor), where the person is in real time with an integrated warning system for the staff to be able to respond in real time.

Challenge #4: Digital logbook for information sharing
The goal is to create a a logbook that would perform the function of information systematization and internal information dissemination, covering different accounts of employees, relatives and guardians about patients/wards. In this digital logbook, information should be available to users by categories, depending on the information type.
Also, the information entered should be available statistically, so that it would be possible to export reports in different categories about one patient/ward or their group.
