The international HumanAIze project is developing a training and practical support system designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public sector organisations better understand the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence (AI) and apply them in their day-to-day activities.
Within the project, Klaipeda Science and Technology Park is leading the Lithuanian baseline study and needs assessment on the use of artificial intelligence in municipalities, public organisations and SMEs. The assessment combines publicly available data with interviews involving representatives of SMEs, municipalities and other public organisations in the Klaipeda region. Its aim is to evaluate how AI is currently being used, what skills and competences are still missing, and in which areas AI could bring the greatest practical value.
The analysis revealed considerable differences in how prepared organisations are to adopt AI. Some are already experimenting with different tools and exploring ways to integrate them into everyday processes, while others still lack practical knowledge, clear use cases or the internal capacity to get started. The main barriers identified include not only a lack of relevant competences, but also resistance to change, uncertainty over return on investment, and concerns related to data protection and information security.
At the same time, the analysis identified a wide range of practical opportunities for AI application – from the automation of administrative processes and customer service to manufacturing optimisation, logistics, data analysis, environmental management and decision support. SME representatives expressed the strongest need for practical workshops based on real business challenges, sector-specific examples and the integration of AI into existing workflows.
These insights will provide an important basis for shaping the HumanAIze training system. Project partners are currently developing its structure, topics and methodological materials, while also bringing together a group of experts. The aim is to ensure that future online and in-person training activities are adapted to different levels of organisational readiness and cover not only knowledge about AI tools, but also their practical implementation, responsible use, expert guidance and the testing of specific solutions.
Klaipeda Science and Technology Park will also engage Lithuanian SMEs in the project’s training activities and practical workshops. The overall goal is to help organisations move from general interest in AI towards solutions that can be applied in their everyday operations.
