The Alliance is a consortium of research and technology institutes, technology parks and innovation companies, all members of the SUBMARINER Network, including Klaipėda Science and Technology Park. We possess and can apply the knowledge to facilitate product development. Working with Start-ups and SMEs (that we call “cases”), we have created a functional ecosystem of actors, who take advantage from mutual, constantly evolving, demand-driven support within blue biotechnology.
We offer members opportunities for networking, match-making and promotion via accessible address book of actors, workshops, match-making events, and ongoing search and training of new cases and mentors. Members can also reach out and advertise their cooperation requests via our newsletters and website.
On top of that, we respond to user needs by matching them with services, facilities and expertise to take their idea to the next level. Members offer tailored services to each other on demand basis. We identify and mobilise the right partners to advance a project, and to create and respond to the necessary business, organisational and legal conditions for a project to be realised through transnational product development. Regardless of what stage users are in.
During the past years, cases within the Alliance have spanned from bioprospecting to proof of principle, to upscaling and market launch. Alliance members have a unique portfolio of support services to offer in line with their expertise, interests and capacities.

Sustainable Baltic Sea Region 2030
Helsinki-Espoo-Kotka Innovation Camp
02.05.2019 – 04.05.2019
How can we best translate the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals at the level of the Baltic Sea Region?
Representatives of cities, regions, universities, start ups and civil society organizations from the nine countries around the Baltic Sea assemble at Aalto University to innovate around SDGs, educational needs, future competences and what it means for our everyday life.
Because delivering on sustainable development requires true open-minded collaboration, Aalto University in cooperation with Climate Leadership Coalition, City of Espoo and City of Kotka bring forward four challenges that help tackling the 1,5C limit requirement in BSR.
Student teams will challenge and inspire practitioners of the Baltic Sea Region by presenting their daring solutions of Sustainable Hub for the City of Kotka, and Interactive Waste Art for the waterfront in City of Espoo.
A facilitator artist will draw every step of the camp work to help promote creativity and out-of-the-box thinking through visualization. The participants will work together for 2 full days to develop Sustainable BSR 2030 solutions that can involve everyone, especially the younger generation.
The camp is organized as part of the innovation camp series in Smart-Up BSR project led by Aalto University professor Taina Tukiainen. Helsinki-Espoo-Kotka Innovation Camp is organized with support of Cursor Oy and Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council.

Hello there, welcome!
I am Timothy Roy, originally from Bangladesh and currently an undergraduate student of International Business at LCC International University. I consider myself a curious person and an active learner which fueled me to learn and study about various things by my own. I am passionate about using my knowledge and insight to solve problems and use it for practical purposes. My curiosity and learning abilities have enabled me to solve different business-related problems.
What is next?
I am looking forward to graduating from LCC on April, 2019. Currently, I am looking for a career opportunity in Klaipeda and I am open to new opportunities. I believe my strengths are in strategic planning, research, communication, leadership, marketing, etc. I am willing to learn and take responsibility if I am offered with new opportunities.
Why Klaipeda?
I have been in Klaipeda for 4 years studying International Business at LCC. Klaipeda is a beautiful city – the aesthetic Old Town, the Baltic Sea, and the clam and peaceful woods are just a few to mention. People in this town are respectful and hold a welcoming attitude towards foreigners. Also, the city is a vibrant relic of history – the city’s culture is enriched by the existence of numerous museums and historical artifacts. In short, Klaipeda is a simple and a clam city yet beautiful and historically significant.
I have not only developed a passion and love for the city but also emerged myself into a diverse community in this city. Being an International University, LCC brings students from almost all over the world. Since I have studied at this university for the last four years, I have gotten an opportunity to meet and develop relationships with people from many different cultures. So, the community is one of the strong ties that I have in Klaipeda.
Furthermore, I have been actively involved with different businesses in Klaipeda in many ways. As a result, I have developed a number of business connections and gained trust from professionals and different corporations in Klaipeda. I see this connection as a great investment for my future.
Lastly, because of Klaipeda’s aesthetic appeal, diverse community, business network and potential economic growth in the future, my friend and I have decided to move here as we conceive a future potential of starting our own business in this city.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
”INNOVATION BY FINDING NOVEL WAYS OF COMBINING CAPABILITIES AND RESOURCES OF DIFFERENT COMPANIES (C&T)”
Topics covered in the workshop will include the following:
- Kick off – Inspirational keynote on innovation with relevance to Maritime, Tourism and/or Sustainable Energy Production.
- Innovation charrette – Work in small teams with members from both traditional and creative industries on a challenge based on opportunity areas for companies in the fields of Maritime, Tourism and Sustainable Energy Production:
- Explore and frame current opportunities within the Maritime, Tourism and Sustainable Energy ecosystems. Which actors are involved? What are their goals? What prevents them from accomplishing them? How do they attempt to solve the situation? What resources and skills they have?
- Use creative industries’ capabilities and resources as potential patterns for developing new value propositions. How could services in the fields of Maritime, Tourism and Sustainable Energy Production be if we could mix in the experiences, the culture or the production systems of creative industries?
- Develop iteratively ideas into concepts by prototyping the new products, services or strategies. How do the new services work? Are they understandable? Are they perceived as valuable? What is the experience of users and clients? What works and what doesn’t? What additional prototyping activities do we need to perform to further explore and refine each proposal?
- Analyze and operationalize collaboration among two or more involved companies. When are the different capabilities needed? Who hold each skill or resource? How will diverse organizations collaborate?
- Towards joint innovation — Reflect on the previous process. Was collaboration fruitful? Was it easy? What are the potential barriers to translate the experience beyond the workshop and into real joint innovation projects? Which are the challenges, capabilities and resources of the participant companies that pose an opportunity for joint innovation? Is there a need for any kind of support? What would be a realistic roadmap for such collaboration?
